Like many of us in this business, I’m a refugee from Manhattan who started life in the Hudson Valley as a weekender.   In 1990, after several seasons in “The Hamptons,” I found that spending so much time in the Queens Midtown Tunnel just didn’t work for me. 

 About the same time, friends invited me for a visit to their weekend home in Mt. Tremper.  Ah yes, they had it all: stream frontage, mountain views, charm galore.  Needless to say, I was hooked.  So when a little cottage on the same country road became available, I snapped it up. Now that was the smartest thing I’ve ever done.  Only problem was, as time went by, I longed to spend more and more time upstate – and less and less time in NYC. 

 So I took a crash course at NYU, got my Real Estate license, and began selling second homes in Ulster County to fellow New Yorkers who – like myself -- wanted more space and less stress in their lives.  Eventually – though not as soon as I would have preferred – I was able to retire from The New York Times after 17 years, and leave NYC in my rearview mirror.
